In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose
Aug 2008Released: 2008, Nuclear Blast

In short, this album is a disappointment. The material is lackluster at best, it almost sounds like a collection of rarities and B-sides as opposed to fresh new material.
Admittedly I was a late bloomer to the world of In Flames - I came in on Reroute To Remains and worked my way back through their catalog. 2006's release of Come Clarity was a let down of a lesser degree but still had a few solid tracks. By contrast, A Sense Of Purpose fails to invoke any strong positive feelings on any of the tracks, even after several listens. There weren't any stand out tracks, they all seemed to blend into a dull audio collage of tired guitar tracks.
If you are a diehard lifer, then you may enjoy this album, if you are new to In Flames I recommend investing your money in albums like Jester Race and Clayman instead.
